Fitzgerald
Welcome to Fitzgerald!
Founded in 1896, only 30 years after the Civil War by Yankees, deep in the piney woods of former enemy territory, Fitzgerald, Georgia, is indeed a unique city. The city streets are named for northern generals on the east side, southern generals on the west side, southern rivers on the north side, and southern trees on the south side. Some 2600 families from throughout the country were newcomers to this area. Together they built our community. We continue to pride ourselves on the tradition of welcoming and working with newcomers, whether you are here to live, work, or play.
Fitzgerald’s founders had quite a sense of humor, placing the original fire department on Sherman Street. Fitzgerald, Georgia, has quite a history, and we would love to share it with you.
